This week I've been filling out a scholarship that my old elementary school is offering. The prompt was to tell about a good memory or experience you had during your time there. So I'm going to share my best elementary school experience. It starts in 3rd grade when our class started a science project on African Clawed Frogs, or at that moment tadpoles. African Clawed Frogs are a species found in the Sahara in the east and southern parts of Africa, they are an invasive species and are now found all over the world in freshwater areas. They have a long life span of 15 years (I've even heard about some that are 30 years old!).
I got my first tadpoles when we finished our project in the 3rd grade. I chose to take two home, keeping them in a small tank (1 gallon maybe). A couple days after bring them home, one passed away so I was left with one, it's name was Zilla. About halfway through the summer my fascination for them grew. So my mom and I found a website where you could purchase them. We ordered two, one of which is an albino frog. I was ecstatic when they arrived. We got them set into their new home (a 5 gallon tank now) but a few hours later one died, so we were left with Zilla and our new albino frog, Zipper. By my 5th grade year I had them moved into a 10 gallon tank and I was so proud that I had kept them alive and their environment clean. I got my last frog in the 5th grade when my old teacher asked if we wanted it, she knew that I already had 2. My mom said yes and this new frog was named Lucky. We got them a bigger, 30 gallon tank, and moved over all of the fun decorations we had for them. I'm proud to say that they are all still alive and thriving. I always like telling people I have 3 frogs because that's not something everyone has and it makes me unique.
