This week at my mentor site I finished entering data into the database. The next day we worked on taking the bugs that were in storage which were soaking in a solution of sanitizer (to help keep their bodies in a preserved state). However, the problem with this is that while they sit in the sanitizer they start to decompose because of the alcohol in the sanitizer. So my mentor, Tiffany, hopefully found a solution to this; it's a type of paste that we will paint onto the bugs. When applied it the color is a fluorescent bluish white, but dries clear like glue. Now we wait to see if this "paste" will help keep the bugs in their natural states. We have a control bug and a bug that was painted with the "paste". Hopefully this new process will work better. Then we can use these bugs for viewing and sharing with the public to look at and learn about.
